Couplings

Combifit supplies couplings and seals according to the standards ISO-2852, ISO-2853, DIN, IDF Unions - BS 4825 and ASA. The couplings are applicable in hygienic and aseptic processes and lend themselves to "cleaning in place" (CIP) implementation.

The Combifit T-seal is a seal composed of a stainless steel outer ring having a T-shape profile and a rubber inner ring (with FDA cert.) vulcanised onto the stainless steel outer ring. The Combifit T-seal is designed to obtain a hygienic seal in piping connections for food and pharmaceutical processes. These locations are traditional centres for bacteria cultures and regular disassembly often is the only way to clean the unit. Disassembly is expensive and interrupts the production process. Using the Combifit T-seal a full "cleaning in place" (CIP) is possible. 

Technical aspects

1. Because of the specific shape (patent pending), the rubber inner ring will be compressed to have a flat inside wall, flush with the inside wall of the connecting liner and male part of a coupling. Crevices are eliminated. 

2. A food quality rubber (FDA-approved) compound is selected for the inner ring: EPDM, Silicone or Viton.

3. Because of the T-shape of the ring the connecting coupling parts will be lined up automatically when the coupling is tightened. 

4. One of the main features of the Combifit  T-seal is that it can be snapped into place easily thus saving shutdown time. 

5. When installed the rubber seal is enclosed and protected within three metal sides. Therefore silicon rubber can be applied for use in high temperature applications and sterilisation treatments where no ageing of the rubber will occur. 

6. When the coupling is tightened the destruction of the rubber seal is prevented by metal to metal stop. 

7. In addition to the rubber seal a metal to metal seal is realised. 

8. Unlike the single rubber seals the Combifit T-seal can not be blown out because it is blocked by its seats. 

9. The Combifit T-seal can be mounted on all existing ISO-2852, ISO-2853, DIN, IDF Unions - BS 4825 and ASA couplings. 

10. The Combifit T-seal size 1½” has been pressure tested at 250 bar and was found leak tight. 

11. Stringent bacteria fouling has been applied but after CIP the seal was clean. 

12. The Combifit T-seal has a long lifetime.

Commercial aspects

1. The rapid installation saves time. 

2. Shorter sterilisation times are obtained. 

3. Because of full CIP  no disassembly and maintenance time is required. 

4. Longer lifetime generates savings.

De Combifit T-ring is een afdichtingring die opgebouwd is uit een roestvrijstalen buitenring met een T-vormig doorsnedeprofiel en een rubberen binnenring met FDA certificering die tegen de roestvrijstalen ring is aan gevulkaniseerd. De Combifit T-ring is ontworpen om een hygiënische afdichting te verkrijgen in pijpsystemen en bij aansluitingen op apparaten die gebruikt worden in de voedingsmiddelenindustrie en de farmacie. De locaties van de koppelingen in het proces zijn vaak de haarden van bacteriekolonies en deze moeten om die reden regelmatig uiteengenomen en schoongemaakt worden. Door het gebruik van de Combifit T-ring is een volledige “Cleaning In Place” (CIP) mogelijk.

Gebruikelijk is dat de afdichtring geheel gemaakt is van een soort rubber, maar bij aandraaien van de koppeling wordt deze misvormt en kapot gedrukt.

Het ontwerp van de Combifit T-ring (afdichtring)

1. Door de specifieke vormgeving (patent aangevraagd) zal de rubberen binnenring zodanig vlakgedrukt worden dat de binnendiameter vlak oploopt met de binnenwand van de koppelingdelen. Spleten worden hierdoor vermeden. 

2. De rubbersoorten EPDM, Silicone en Viton zijn FDA goedgekeurd en voldoen aan de eisen van de voedingsmiddelenindustrie. 

3. Door het T-profiel van de ring worden de aansluitende koppelingsdelen automatisch opgelijnd.

4. Door de solide roestvrijstalen buitenring wordt de Combifit T-ring makkelijk op zijn plaats geklikt en is ook makkelijk te verwijderen. 

5. De rubberen binnenring is in de geïnstalleerde koppeling omsloten door metalen wanden van roestvrijstaal. Om deze reden is het mogelijk (kwetsbaar) siliconenrubber toe te passen, hetgeen belangrijk is bij het gebruik van hoge temperaturen, bijvoorbeeld bij het steriliseren van de installatie bij 140-150°C.  

6. Tijdens het aandraaien van de koppeling kan de rubberen binnenring slechts 14% samengedrukt worden, waarna de aanslag van metaal op metaal volgt.  

7. Dus naast de rubberen afdichting bestaat ook nog een metaal op metaal afdichting waardoor een beschadigde ring nooit een ernstige lekkage kan veroorzaken. 

8. De Combifit T-ring kan niet, zoals bij enkelvoudige rubberen afdichtingen, door de procesdruk uit zijn zitting geblazen worden. 

9. De Combifit T-ring kan in alle bestaande ISO-2852, ISO-2853, DIN, IDF Unions - BS 4825 en ASA systemen geïnstalleerd worden.  

10. De Combifit T-ring, maat 1½”, heeft een druktest van 250 bar ondergaan en is lekvrij en dicht bevonden.  

11. De Combifit T-ring is (geïnstalleerd) onderworpen aan een zware bacterietest, is daarna in de leiding gespoeld en volkomen schoon uit de leiding gekomen. 

12. De Combifit T-ring heeft een lange levensduur en dus een lange standtijd.  

 Commerciële aspecten

1. De mogelijkheid van een snelle installatie bespaart tijd.

2. Door toepassing van hogere temperaturen worden de sterilisatietijden korter. 

3. Door de mogelijkheid van CIP worden kosten door stilstand en voor onderhoud uitgespaard. 

4. Produceren met langere standtijden betekent ook kostenbesparing.
